What is Seti@Home?

You may have seen the movie Contact with Jodie Foster where while listening for radio signals from outer-space, she stumbles across a message orginating from a nearby star. The contents of the message indiciate intelligent life and coded within the signal are instructions to build some sort of space travel machine.

Even if the signal didn't contain such an elaborate machine, even just a coded signal listing a sequence of prime numbers would indicate that intelligent life exists outside our own solar system. Wow! Can you magine the posibilities how we as a human race we would react if we learnt that we were not alone in the universe. How would we feel? What implications would it have to our history, our future and our beliefs and religions?

Want to find out? I certainly do!

The Seti@Home project allows you to participate in the global effort to seek intelligent life on other worlds by using distributed data processing technology, sharing the computing power of over 3.7 million computers around the world to analyze the data collected using radio dishes by the SETI foundation. I've been involved in the project for more than 7 years now, contributing almost 300,000 hours of computing time to the effort, putting us in the top 100 places in Australia. Not bad eh?

Come join team "AnotherWorld", be a part of this ground-breaking research. It costs you nothing, just download and install the groovy screensaver and use the computing power of your computer(s) at home and/or work to help the world wide search.
